Barbara Ann (Mews) McCarter

On September 26, 2023, Barbara Ann McCarter of Gaston County, NC passed away peacefully at the age of 85. Barbara was born on March 20, 1938 to Albert and Bessie Pearson Mews in Gaston County.

Barbara was a loving wife to her husband Robert C. McCarter Sr. Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter Deborah Jefferies and two brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her sons Rob McCarter of Belmont and his wife Teresa; Sam McCarter of Dallas; son-in-law Bill Jefferies; brother Jerry Mews of Gastonia; grandchildren Jordan McCarter of West Bloomfield, Michigan, Lawson McCarter of Sparta, NC, Alex McCarter and Kendall McCarter both of Gastonia, Jason Jefferies of Belmont, Kris Jefferies and Bailey Jefferies both of Gastonia, Matthew Jefferies also of Gastonia; as well as four great granddaughters and five great grandsons. 

Prior to retirement Barbara worked as a teacher. She was an avid reader who enjoyed biographies and reading the Bible. She also loved watching the Atlanta Braves on TV and had a special knack for cooking – she even made hand-made cookbooks for all her male sons and grandsons! 

The funeral will be held at Love Memorial Baptist Church East Walnut Avenue in Gastonia on Monday October 2nd at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery in Gastonia.
