It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Love Powell Reid, who left this world on February 11, 2025, at Caromont Regional Medical Center. Born on March 3, 1935, in Gaston County, Barbara’s life spanned nearly 90 years filled with love, family, and a deep commitment to those she held dear.

Barbara was the cherished daughter of TR and Hattie Ottinger Powell and is preceded in death by her beloved parents, her brother John Powell, and her sisters Dot Sadler and Mary Holbrook.

Barbara's legacy lives on through her four devoted children, Donita Withers and her husband Bill of Stanley, Vicky Gamage and her husband Mike of Stanley, TR Reid and his wife Sheila of Oak Island, and Tori Risley and her husband David of Mount Holly. Her grandchildren, Courtney Withers, Ashley Painter, Sonny Withers, Rachel Gamage, Clint Gamage, Trenton Reid, and Devin Reid, who were the pride and joy of her life. Barbara also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson, along with numerous extended family members who will cherish her memory.

A graduate of Stanley High School, Barbara dedicated her professional life to banking, where she cultivated many lasting relationships throughout her career. Though her work was important to her, it was her hobbies that brought her true joy. Barbara was passionate about jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, and reading, activities that provided her not only with entertainment but also with moments of reflection.

Barbara was known for her loving and giving nature; she always put her family's needs above her own, caring for them with unwavering devotion. Her heart was as big as her smile, and her spirit was a source of inspiration to all who knew her.

The family will hold a graveside service to honor Barbara’s life on Monday February 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery. Friends and family are warmly invited to join in celebrating a life that was truly remarkable, reflecting on the cherished memories and the profound impact she had on those around her.
