Betty Belk Obituary

Betty Moore Belk, 93, died September 17th , 2022 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia.
Betty was born June 26, 1929 in Gaston County, NC. She grew up in Mount Holly, attending and graduating from Mount Holly High School. She continued her education at Greensboro College graduating with a degree in Speech and Communication. She started her career working at the Carolina School of Broadcasting then working for WSOC radio, and The Sanger Clinic. Later, she acquired her teaching certificate from Belmont Abbey College and taught English and Dramatics in Mount Holly Junior High and High school for 32 years. She sponsored the Drama Club and supervised many memorable plays throughout the years.
Betty grew up attending First Baptist Church, and after marrying the love of her life, Tommy (who was actually ”the boy next door”), became an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran
Church. She served on numerous committees, such as Church Council, directing plays, teaching Sunday School, and the handbell choir.
Betty loved to travel with her husband, Tommy and family, visiting all 50 states, as well as many countries abroad. Among many other activities, she enjoyed listening to music, journaling, and scrapbooking.
She is surviced by her children-Lou Ann Belk Gibson(Mike)-Gastonia, NC, Thomas Ambrose Belk III-Mt. Holly, NC,
Dianne Belk Vanhoy- Mt. Holly, NC, Timothy James Belk, Mt. Holly, NC.    Her grandchildren- Lindsay Gibson Nelson-Milton, Ga, Amy Wentzel Cobb-Mt. Holly, NC, Clayton
Michael Gibson-Gastonia, NC, Anna Belk Cheek-Hickory, NC, Lauren Belk Evans-Kernersville, NC, Marshall Thomas Vanhoy-Long Beach, California, Thomas Ambrose Belk IV-Mt. Holly, NC, Katherine Lee Belk-Hickory, NC. 7 great grandchildren, her brothers- Dr. Carl Moore-Greenwood, SC, Richard Moore-Denver, NC, and Oliver S. Moore, Jr.- Rockwell, NC
Mrs. Belk was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years-Thomas Ambrose Belk, Jr., her parents- Dr. Oliver Shipley Moore, Anna Miles Moore and her brother- Miles Erwin Moore

A service to celebrate her life will be held 1:00pm Saturday October 1, 2022 at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Mount Holly officiated by  Rev. Melody Simpkins and  Rev. Daniel Duke. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00pm prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers for the service are Tom Belk, Tim Belk, Clayton Gibson, Marshall Vanhoy, Thomas A. Belk, IV and Mike Gibson.
