Betty Jane Moore Black Obituary

Mount Holly lost one of its most beloved mothers and faithful servants with the passing of Betty Black, who blessed this world for 97 wonderful years. She was born in West Virginia in 1928, to her mother Elizabeth and father James. She was preceded in death by her sisters Emogene and Eleanore.

Betty was known and loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and genuine love for people made her a joy to be around. She never met a stranger, and she had a special way of making others feel welcome and valued, always offering a warm smile, kind words, and a caring heart.

She shared a beautiful love story with her beloved husband, Bob, with whom she enjoyed a devoted marriage of 60 years and was the love of her life. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, family, and unwavering commitment. Their marriage was an inspiration to all who knew them.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. One of her favorite scriptures, Philippians 4:13, reflected the way she lived each day: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This verse guided her through life’s joys and challenges and was evident in her quiet strength, resilience, and grace.

She deeply loved her three boys, Mike, Bobby, and Greg, and was immensely proud of the men they became and the many accomplishments they achieved throughout their lives. Her greatest joy was watching her family grow and flourish. She was also a loving grandmother and great-grandmother who treasured time with her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, celebrating their each of their lives and encouraging them every step of the way.

Betty found great joy in cooking, pottery, and serving her church community. Her faith was lived out through service, and she played an important role in the life of her church. In 1966, she helped start the preschool children’s program at First Methodist Church in Mount Holly, touching the lives of countless children and families in the Mount Holly area.

Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and love. Friends, neighbors, and family members alike remember her generous spirit and the way she cared for others. Betty lived a life of kindness, faith, and quiet service to those around her.

Though our hearts are saddened by her passing, we celebrate a life filled with love, faith, and purpose. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a gift that will live in our hearts forever. With unwavering faith, she embraced the strength that comes from her faith—a truth she carried in her heart every day of her remarkable life.

A loving mother, faithful servant, and cherished friend, her legacy of love will continue to shine in the lives of all who knew her. The world is a better place because she was in it.

A funeral service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 2:30 PM at First Methodist Church in Mount Holly. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church. A private committal service will follow for the family.
