Brenda "Sue" Farris Loftin of Mt. Holly and Merritt Island, FL died June 24, 2024 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.
Sue was born November 7, 1940 in Mt. Holly, daughter of the late Russell Clifford and Irma Black Farris. She was pre-deceased by her husband Charles Loftin.
Sue was a 1959 graduate of Mt. Holly High School. She dedicated her life to helping others and that was evident by the work and activities that she did throughout her career and life. She worked for over 30 years as the Secretary/Treasurer for the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Holly. During this time and after she led and supported the local Community Relief Organization (CRO) providing assistance to people where needed. She also organized and led a local senior citizens group called "The 39ers" taking trips to historic areas and places of interest. After moving to FL, she became involved with the volunteer organization at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach. She volunteered there for the last 20 years accumulating over 20,000 hours of volunteer time. She held numerous positions within the organization including President severaltimes. In 2016, Sue was presented with the Brevard County Humanitarian Award.
Survivors include son Chuck Loftin and wife Tracy of Mims, FL, four grandchildren, Chase Loftin of Mims, FL, Ryan Loftin of Port St John, FL, Joey Pickrell of Glen Burnie, MD, and Kristen Pickrell of Jacksonville, FL, sister Frances F. Wingate of Gastonia, NC, brother C.R. Farris and wife Evelyn of Cornelius, NC, brother Bill Farris and wife Judy of Denver, NC. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday July 2 at the First Presbyterian Church, 133 S Main St. Mt. Holly. The funeral service will be at 11am on Wednesday July 3 also at the church. Interment will be at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery following the service.
