Bruce Baker Obituary
Bruce Baker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and patriot, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on December 23, 1955, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Bruce lived a life overflowing with love, quiet strength, and selfless devotion to those he held dear.
The son of the late Yates Baker and Myrtle Lathan Baker, Bruce answered the call of duty with unwavering honor, serving proudly in the United States Marines from August 1974 to September 1983. Rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-5), he bravely contributed to operations during Desert Storm and the Gulf War, embodying the courage and commitment that defined him. After his military service, Bruce pursued higher education, earning a degree that paved the way for a distinguished career at Duke Energy. There, he dedicated over 40 years of his life, retiring as a respected colleague known for his professionalism, warm demeanor, and that ever-friendly voice that brightened the days of those around him.
At the heart of Bruce's world was his family, whom he treasured above all else. On July 17, 1976, he married the love of his life, Dawn Baker, and together they built a home filled with joy, laughter, and unbreakable bonds. Bruce is survived by his devoted wife, Dawn; his adoring daughters, Carmen Baker and her husband Bill Bullock, and Haley Carney; his precious grandchildren, Maddox Henson and Blakeley Carney, who brought endless light to his days; his loving sisters, Debbie Ward and Andrea Baker; and his faithful companion dog, Gabby, who was never far from his side.
Affectionately known as "Papa," Bruce was a pillar of kindness and gentle power. He had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel safe, truly heard, and deeply cared for—whether through his captivating stories, infectious laughter, or simply his comforting presence. His quiet generosity touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark of warmth and love on family, friends, and strangers alike. Bruce's legacy is one of profound family devotion, resilience, and the simple, heartfelt acts that made the world a better place.
