Charles Ray Crisp, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home on January 4, 2024. He was born on July 16, 1937, in Gaston County, NC, to the late Lillian Lucille Sahms and Robert Guy Crisp.

Charles was preceded in death by his children, Charles Kenneth Crisp and Cynthia Yvonne Lawrence, as well as his brother, Robert Crisp.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mildred Ruth Crisp, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Their commitment and enduring love serve as an inspiration to all. Charles leaves behind a legacy through his four children: Shelia Welch (Bryan) of Gastonia, Sam Crisp (Theresa) of Newport News, VA, April Crisp of Mount Holly, and Robert Crisp (Carla) of Gastonia.

Charles was blessed with a large and loving family, including 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous extended family members.

Before retiring, Charles dedicated many years of his life to working at Nixon Construction.

In his free time, Charles found joy in watching NASCAR racing and was a former dirt track driver. The thrill of the track and the camaraderie of fellow competitors and fans brought him happiness.

Charles served his country as a proud veteran of the US Air Force. His dedication to his country and his selflessness in defending the freedom we hold dear will never be forgotten.

A funeral service to celebrate Charles's life will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC, on Sunday January 7, 2024, at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00pm prior to the service at the church. Family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Charles are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
