Delores Stone Stewart, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, at the age of 90. She was born on October 4, 1934, in Belmont, North Carolina, daughter of the late Albert and Edna Lewis Stone. Delores lived a life full of love, adventure, and unwavering spirit, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Delores graduated from Mount Holly High School in 1953 and went on to make her mark in the world, working in the trucking industry for over 30 years. Her dedication to her work was a testament to her strong character and resilience. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Delores was an adventurous soul, always on the go. She loved the thrill of new experiences, including the exhilarating joy of being a hot air balloonist. Family was the cornerstone of Delores’s life. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Stewart, her sister Gloria Huskins, and her son-in-law, Leslie Burleson. Delores is survived by her children, Pam Burleson of Mount Holly, and Andy Stewart and his husband Tra Bradley, also of Mount Holly. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Nicole Smith (Brian), Candice Beck (Dan), Adam Burleson (Ally), Katie Stewart, Emily Stewart, and Cody Buff. Additionally, she was a proud great-grandmother to Blake Harrison, Chandler Burleson, Addyson Beck, Colton Smith, and Rachel Smith. Delores was also a cherished sister, leaving behind Lancy Rhyne (Lanny) and Linda Hawley (Richard), as well as numerous extended family members who loved her dearly. She had a special bond with her devoted caregiver, Karrie Davis, who provided her with love and support in her last years. An active member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Holly, Delores enjoyed participating in many activities there including teaching Sunday School and helping on the bereavement committee.  She enjoyed her time spent with her bridge club. Delores had a penchant for the outdoors, often found working in her yard, bringing beauty to her surroundings. Delores's life will be celebrated during a funeral service at 11:00 AM on December 5, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Mount Holly.She will be buried at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor her remarkable journey and the impact she made on so many lives from 10:00-10:45 am prior to the service. In her 90 years, Delores lived a life filled with devotion, love, and adventure. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories, laughter, and love that will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched. Her spirit will continue to soar with the hot air balloons she cherished, reminding us all to embrace life with passion and joy.
