Donald Edwin "Fish" Barnes, born March 19, 1949, in Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, at the W.G. Hefner Salisbury VA Medical Center. He lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to his family, and he will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Donald was the beloved son of the late James and Edelmira Barnes. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 45 years, Audrey Lynn Barnes, and his two brothers, Mike Barnes and Barry Barnes. He is survived by his two cherished children, Stacey Barnes of Belmont and Kelly Foster, along with her husband, Roger Foster Jr., of York, South Carolina. Donald took immense pride in his family, especially his special granddaughter, Emily Foster, of York, South Carolina. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Barnes, and his brothers, Jerry Barnes and his wife, Sandra, and Jeff Barnes.A special cousin Joel Melton who was more like a brother. He also left behind his cherished granddog Waylon.
He graduated from Belmont High School before entering the military service. A proud U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, Donald served from 1968 to 1970 as a Military Policeman, embodying the spirit of duty and service to his country. He received numerous commendations and awards. Following his military service, he went on to become the owner of Superior Food Services, where he dedicated himself to his work and community.
Donald was an avid fisherman, finding peace and joy in the great outdoors and the simple pleasure of casting a line. He was of Christian Faith and is now reunited with his wife in Heaven.
A graveside service officiated by Pastor Lewis Gunn and Pastor Emily Foster will be held on Monday June 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont. Friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate Donald's life.
