Ernest Daniel “Danny” Rice, 65, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Born on August 20, 1960, Danny was a devoted spouse, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be remembered for the love he shared with his family, his caring spirit, and the countless memories he created with those who knew and loved him.

Danny was preceded in death by his father, Herman Eugene Rice I; his mother, Sybil Ross Corbin; and his brother, Herman Eugene “Gene” Rice II.

He is survived by his beloved fiancée of 26 years, Kimberly Nichols; his son, Tyler Rice and fiancée, Haley; his stepdaughter, Sheryl Smith and husband, Nathan; and his cherished grandchildren, Raegan Smith and Kaeleigh Smith.

He is also survived by his brother, Robert Eugene “Bobby” Rice and wife, Holly; his sister, Diane Gatlin; his sister-in-law, Teresa Rice; his faithful four-legged companion, Bella; and many loving nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

Danny enjoyed giving back to others through volunteer service with the American Red Cross, assisting communities affected by Hurricane Helene and the Carolina wildfires. He found great fulfillment in helping those in need during difficult times. He also enjoyed the unique experience of working as an extra in a Netflix series, an opportunity that brought him much excitement and many stories to share with family and friends.

Danny’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, and his legacy of love and devotion will continue to live on through them. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured by all who knew him.

The family will honor Danny’s life August 1, 2026 at 4p-6p at First United Methodist Church of Mount Holly (140 N Main St Mount Holly NC 28120).

Though he will be deeply missed, Danny’s memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
