Gene Sherrill Bynum, 94, passed away on September 25, 2024, in Cramerton, NC. Born in McAdenville, NC on June 21, 1930 to the late Lily Mae Bynum, Gene dedicated his life to service, family, and community. A valiant US Army veteran, he served during the Korean War and was honored with a Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifices.
Gene worked for many years and eventually retired twice from Sodeyco and later again from the Gaston County Landfill. His faith shown through as a longtime member of the First Methodist Church in Mount Holly.
Gene was a man of many interests, including picture framing, woodworking, and a love for classic cars. These hobbies brought him much joy and allowed him to connect with others who shared his passions.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 68 years, Della Bynum; daughters, Barbara McClung and her husband Tom of Parker, CO, and Cynthia Lynn Frazier and her husband Jay of Mount Holly; grandchildren, Sarah McKinley and her husband Matt, Charlie McClung, Ethan Frazier and his wife Kallie, and Maggie Frazier; and great-grandchildren, Decker Frazier, Zach McKinley, and Dane Frazier.
A celebration of Mr Bynum's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the First Methodist Church in Mount Holly, with a visitation one hour prior, from 10-11:00 am. Interment with military honors will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery. His life of service and love will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
Memorials may be made to the Disabled Veterans or The American Cancer Society.
