James Gaston Cannon, a native of Belmont, NC and raised in E. Belmont, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2023 in Rock Hill, SC. He was born on November 13, 1934 to the late John Clinton Cannon and Marie Bailey Cannon.

James dedicated his work life to the textile industry and was a founding member of the Belmont Historical Society as well as a past president of the Belmont Optimist Club.

He is survived by his daughter Karen Cannon Hendrix (David) of Mount Holly, brother John Gary Cannon of Belmont, grandchildren Hope H. McIntosh (Mitch) of Mount Holly David Q. Hendrix (Heather) of Lincolnton, Anne H. Duckworth (Bruce) of N. Myrtle Beach, SC and Joseph Elijah Cannon Jr. of Mount Holly as well as 7 great grandchildren and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife Judy Keeter Cannon and two sons James Gaston Cannon II and Joseph Elijah Cannon.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

James Gaston Cannon  will be greatly missed by all those who loved him dearly but never forgotten for the positive impact he left behind.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Belmont Historical Society or to Park Street United Methodist Church.
