Every significant event and date led James Robert Thomas Jr., better known as Jim, to the most significant day of his life, April 29, 2024. This is the day his race on earth was completed.
Jim was born to the late James Robert Thomas and Betty Mixon Thomas on March 1, 1948. The Thomas siblings were: Jim, David, Beth, Motte, and Tibby.
Jim married the love of his life, Candice and they began their journey navigating life together! Jim owned and operated Thomas Printing in Charlotte, NC for nearly twenty-five years.
While he had many notable days in his life, the best day of his life was September 10, 1996. On this date, Jim received the gift of the Holy Ghost beginning his race with Jesus Christ. The following day Jim was baptized by immersion in Jesus Name for the remission of sins. The introduction of this “new life” transformed Jim and redirected his passions towards a Kingdom that was not of this world. A Heavenly Kingdom. Jim began looking for a city which hath foundations whose builder and maker is God.
Every day, he continued the race faithfully, pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Upon retirement to Fripp Island, SC, Jim felt his call to the ministry. Rev. James Robert Thomas, Jr. founded and pastored The Pentecostals of Beaufort on Lady’s Island for 20+ years and it continues to be a thriving body of believers. What a legacy!
In addition to his pastorate, Jim along with his wife Candice operated a successful upscale furniture resale shop, The Front Porch. Jim created many long-lasting friendships through this business adventure. After many years of incredible ministry and success in the low country of South Carolina, it was time for another look at retirement!
Upon the second retirement, Jim would relocate back to the Charlotte area and reside in Belmont, NC, choosing to be close to dear friends and his newly found church family, The Upper Room Church. Jim was an active member as he was consistently working, giving, and cultivating an atmosphere of life all around himself. The short-time he was at the URC, he left a lasting impact that will never be forgotten.
It’s impossible to summarize a life well lived in such few sentences.
Jim was a friend to all, a pastor to his flock, a loving husband, father to a spoiled rotten dog/part human, Beau, but above all, he was a faithful Christian. Jim fought the good fight, finished his race, and kept the faith. Well done to a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. We love you, Jim. We will see you again!
