Jane Ann Layton Obituary

Jane Ann Hovis Layton, 75, passed away on Sunday September 4, 2022. She was born in Catawba County, daughter of the late Ken and Tullie McCurry Hovis. She was preceded in death by her brother Ken Hovis who she called Bubby and her first husband Corporal James E. Deese Jr. She was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority of Western Carolina University, where she met her husband. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Holly. During her career, she was an advocate for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Jane enjoyed being a substitute teacher and volunteering at Ida Rankin Elementary School. She especially loved reading to classes. She loved the beach, especially taking walks and searching for shells. She loved going out monthly with the "Birthday Belles" of Mooresville. She loved being at the ball field to watch any of her children or grandchildren play. Her pride was being a grandmother to her own grandchildren and their friends, who called her Grammy or Meh Meh.

She is survived by her husband Fred W, Layton, 3 children Michael Layton of Charlotte, Ryan Layton of Charlotte, and Jenna Addington and husband Trent of Mount Holly. 3 grandchildren Wilson Layton, Layton Addington and Clara Jane Addington, a niece Stephanie Setzer and nephew Bill Hovis.

A memorial service will be held 4:00pm Friday September 16, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Mount Holly. The family will receive friends following the service in the Narthex.
