Jimmy Wayne Gardner Obituary

Jimmy Wayne Gardner, aged 88, of Stanley, NC, passed away peacefully at home on December 1, 2025. Born April 28, 1937, he was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jimmy was the son of the late Harrie and Mary Gilley Gardner. He grew up in Hiltons, Virginia, where he graduated from Hiltons High School in the class of 1955. With a strong sense of duty and patriotism, he served his country as a proud veteran of the United States Army. His commitment to community and family was evident throughout his life, as he dedicated himself to both.

He was preceded in death by five siblings.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Nancy Gardner, whose love and support were a constant in his life. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Cathy Gardner, Scott Gardner and his wife Angela, and Melinda Dibenedetto and her husband Michael. Each of them carries forward the legacy of love, kindness, and strength that he instilled in them.

Jimmy was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Lauren, Caleb, Amber, Ryan, and Summer.

In addition to his immediate family, Jimmy is survived by his siblings Jack Gardner, Peggy Bays and husband Don, and Tony Gardner and wife Jenny, and his sister in laws Teresa Gardner and Mary Gardner who remain as testaments to the bond of family that he cherished so deeply.

An avid sports fan, Jimmy devoted many years to coaching, inspiring young athletes in all sports to pursue their passion. He loved working on crossword puzzles and held a deep appreciation for genealogy, often spending hours tracing the roots of his family tree.

Jimmy was a current member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church, where he contributed to his community and found solace in worship. His faith was a guiding light in his life, influencing his actions and relationships.

After a long and fulfilling career, Jimmy retired from AM International, having devoted many years of service to the company. His strong work ethic and dedication were evident to all who worked alongside him.

A funeral service to honor Jimmy’s life will be held on Monday December 8, 2025, at 3:00 PM at First Methodist Church in Mount Holly. The family will receive friends from 2-3:00pm prior to the service at the church. Friends and family are invited to join together to celebrate the life of a remarkable man who touched so many lives with his kindness and spirit.
