JoAnn Brooks Lee, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, at Caromont Regional Medical Center. Born July 24, 1961, in Monterey, California, JoAnn was the cherished daughter of the late Floyd and Barbara Brooks. She lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for her family and friends.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her brothers, Floyd Brooks Jr., Danny Lee Brooks, and Ricky Scott Brooks, as well as her sisters, Bobbie Brooks Bradley and Rhonda Holland. Her family continued to grow with her marriage to Robert Allen Lee, who was her steadfast partner in life. Together, they created a home for two children, Sarah Elizabeth Ballard and Jacob Alan Ballard and Laura Street. JoAnn's legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Nathaniel, Kyla, Ilayna, and Ezekial, who brought her immense joy and pride and a beloved niece Natalie Faile.
JoAnn attended North Gaston High School. Her love for music, singing, and dancing was evident throughout her life. Her love for the beach was unmatched; there, she found solace and happiness, often dreaming of sunny days with her toes in the sand.
With a warm and forgiving spirit, JoAnn was known for her smile, and her kindness and tolerance towards everyone she met. This quality resonated deeply with those who were fortunate enough to cross her path. Throughout her life, she worked at various establishments, including the Lincoln House, the Pancake House, and Home Depot in Gastonia, where she touched the lives of countless customers who will remember her fondly
JoAnn is survived by her loving husband, Robert; her devoted children, Sarah and Jacob; her cherished grandchildren; her brother, David S. Brooks; and her sisters, Deborah Langford and Margaret Beaty. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and an enduring spirit that will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
