John Posa Obituary

John Posa, 57, of Mount Holly, North Carolina,  passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, November 14 after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. 

John was born on May 29, 1966, to Victor and Carmen (Regidor) Posa in Biloxi, Mississippi. He graduated high school in 1984 from Homer Center High School in Homer City, Pennsylvania. He went on to study Computer Science and Applied Mathematics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). 

After graduating from IUP in 1989, John moved to Charlotte and worked as a Network Specialist for E. I. DuPONT de Nemour. After working in the computer networking industry for over a decade, he transitioned to teaching computer engineering as a Cisco Networking Instructor in the classroom. In 2011, John went on to earn a Master’s in Instructional Technology from Appalachian State University. 

In 1993, John met Debbie (Hodges), and they were married on April 13, 1996 in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1997, they moved to Pleasanton, California, and had their daughter, Jessica, in 1999. They returned to Mount Holly in 2002 and were married for 27 years. 

John was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Holly for over 15 years. He enjoyed cooking with his family, cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers, and playing sudoku puzzles. 

John was preceded in death by his father Victor in 1994 and his mother Carmen in 2013. 

He is survived by his wife, Debbie of Mount Holly, North Carolina; daughter Jessica of Greensboro, North Carolina; sisters Marisa Brisky of Homer City,  Pennsylvania, Ann Posa of Homer City, Pennsylvania, Belinda (Ralph) Kamm of Issaquah, Washington, Jennifer (Roshahn) Whitner of Mount Holly, New Jersey; brother Victor Posa of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. John Reynolds, Director of Lung Transplant at Duke University Hospital; transplant coordinator Allie Roberts; and the entire Duke Lung Transplant Team. 

A funeral service for John will be held at First Baptist Church Mount Holly on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 2 pm with burial immediately following at Hillcrest Cemetery. 

In lieu of visitation, the family would love to have written expressions of memories or thoughts about John to read. A box will be provided at the funeral for the notes, or messages can also be sent to Debbie Posa 2517 Croasdaile Farm Parkway, Apartment 1, Durham, NC 27705.
