It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Karen Bowers Clawson, who left this world on April 13, 2025, at Caromont Regional Medical Center. Born May 16, 1944, in Stanly County, North Carolina, Karen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone she met.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, the late Hubert Lee and Josie Helms Bowers, as well as her brothers Loy, Dwight, and Steve Bowers, and her sisters Flora Richardson and Barbara Foreman.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 50 years, Darrell Clawson, whose companionship was a source of joy and strength. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their two sons, Mark Clawson and Cory Clawson and his wife Laura, and their daughter Dee Anne Johnson,and her husband Ron. Karen's legacy continues through her grandchildren: Jake Clawson, Sydney Johnson, Taylor Johnson, Camryn Clawson, and Beckham Clawson, each of whom were the light of her life. Her love extended beyond her immediate family, encompassing a cherished extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Karen was a devoted long time member of the Way of the Cross Baptist Church in Mount Holly, where she found community and fellowship. Her faith was an integral part of her life, guiding her in every endeavor and shaping her unwavering spirit.
In her free time, Karen found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She adored her Lifetime and Hallmark movies, often getting lost in their heartwarming stories. She was an avid reader and cherished the quiet hours spent with a good book. Gardening brought her immense happiness; she loved spending time nurturing her flowers. Among her great passions was her love for Duke Basketball, where she could often be found cheering for her team with fervor and pride.
Karen's family and friends will remember her for her gentle heart, her infectious laughter, and her unwavering support. She was the glue that held her family together, always ready with a listening ear or a comforting embrace. Her legacy of love, compassion, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A funeral service in honor of Karen Clawson will be held on Friday April 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Way of the Cross Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.
