Malinda Hall Murphy Obituary

Malinda Hall Murphy, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at Peak Resources Gastonia, at the age of 81. A lifelong resident of North Carolina, Malinda was born on November 14, 1943, in Marion, NC, to the late Sidney and Emma Hall. Her warm spirit and nurturing heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Malinda was preceded in death by her parents, as well as four brothers—John, James, Charles, and Sidney Hall—and her sister, Hassie Pitman. Despite the sorrow of loss, Malinda's legacy lives on through the love she cultivated in her family and community.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Sam Murphy, who was her steadfast partner through life's many adventures. Together, they raised three daughters: Angie Davis, Shannon Campbell and her husband Melvin, and Laura Hollar and her husband Steven. Malinda's greatest joy came from being a grandmother to her nine grandchildren—Scott, Jeff, Jeremiah, Christopher, Rebekah, Mary, Samuel, Sydney, and Bethany—who cherished every moment spent with her. Malinda also took pride in her  family, including her brothers, Billy Hall and Wendell Hall, as well as her extended family members Adele Dunbar and Brent Pitman. She was blessed with eight great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.

Malinda enjoyed a fulfilling career, working for over 40 years at Gaston Memorial Hospital, where she was affectionately known as "Murph." Her dedication to her profession was matched only by her passion for caring for others and her commitment to her community. Malinda was a proud graduate of Harris High School and Gaston Memorial School of Nursing, equipping her with the skills she would use to touch so many lives.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of Ridgeview Baptist Church, where she served as the recording secretary and was on the financial committee.

Malinda's hobbies included spending cherished moments with her grandchildren and family trips, where laughter and love flourished.

A  service celebrating Malinda's life will be held on Saturday May 24,  2025, at 2:00 PM at Ridgeview Baptist Church. Family and friends are invited to gather and share in remembrances after the service in the fellowship hall.
