It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Margaret Gowan, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, who left us peacefully on March 31, 2026, at the age of 90. Margaret was born on October 25, 1935, in the warm embrace of Tennessee, where she began her journey, nurtured by her loving parents, Cecil and Mamie Holt. Margaret lived a life rich in love, dedication, and service, leaving an lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was a beacon of strength and compassion, whose legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. Margaret was predeceased by her devoted husband of 57 years, Jimmie Gowan; her beloved son, Kenneth Gowan; her brother, James Holt; and her sister, Ina Gray. Though her heart was touched by these losses, she remained a pillar of grace and resilience, drawing strength from the love of her surviving family members. She is lovingly survived by her son, Kevin Gowan, and his wife, Linda, who were her constant companions and source of pride. Her grandchildren, Dalton Gowan and his wife, Kacie, and Cheridan Pasour and her husband, Tyler, brought immense joy to her life. Her great-grandsons, Kooper and Karter Gowan, filled her days with love and joy. Margaret dedicated over 29 years of her life to the Gaston County School Systems, where she touched countless young lives with her kindness and wisdom. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond the classroom, as she was an active member of the VFW and a devoted lifelong member of the Second Baptist Church in Mount Holly, where she found comfort and community. An avid Braves fan, Margaret never missed a game, cheering enthusiastically for her team. Her love for sports extended to her family, as she delighted in attending her boys' sports events, offering unwavering support from the sidelines. She also cherished her time spent bowling, a testament to her vibrant spirit and love for friendly competition. Alongside her husband, Jimmie, she was always attending NASCAR races, sharing countless thrilling moments that became treasured memories.
A service to celebrate Margaret’s extraordinary life will be held on Monday April 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM, at the Second Baptist Church in Mount Holly. Her family invites all who knew and loved her to join them in honoring her memory and celebrating a life well-lived.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery.
