Mary (Ramsey) Handsel

Mary R. Handsel, 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 4, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late William and Mildred Ramsey.  She was preceded in death by her husband Billy D. Handsel, sister Merle Smith and 2 brothers James Ramsey and Carl Ramsey. She graduated Stanley High School in 1952 where she was the class poet. Mary worked in the retail business for 30 years at Star Furniture and then continued for the past 20 years at Handsel’s Flooring. She was an active and faithful member of New Life Baptist Church for over 50 years where she served in many positions for the church. Mary loved spending time with her family and friends and taking trips with her family and church friends. She enjoyed watching sporting events especially church softball.

Mary is survived by her children Kent Handsel and wife Gail of Little River, SC, David Handsel of Stanley, 5 grandchildren Brad Handsel,  Jadie Handsel Brooks, Leah Handsel, Tatum Devine and Sara Kaye. 8 Great grandchildren, 2 brothers Paul Ramsey and Mike Ramsey, 4 sisters Jenni Nixon, Jewell Brown, Freida Pendleton and Judy Matthews and a special friend Sarah Davis.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Handsel will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2021, at New Life Baptist Church in Stanley. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
