Matthew (Matt) James Hughes, 31, from Charlotte, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021.  Matt was born in VA to James Kenneth Hughes and Lisa Ann Hughes on July 24, 1989. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lisa Ann Hughes, his brother, Ronald Blake Hughes, infant daughter Chandler Lennix Hughes, and maternal grandfather, Ronald Harris.  

Matt is survived by Erin Thompson Hughes, son, Trevor Avery, daughter, Teagan James.  His father, James (Lisa T) and his brothers, Noah Hughes of Stanley, Billy Ganzmuller of VA, Taylor Tomlinson (Abby) of CA, and sister Brittany Gibbs (Hampton), and nephew Rowe of SC.  Surviving grandparents include, Kenneth Hughes of SC, Virginia Reardon of Fl, and Maryann Harris of OH.  Uncles Sean Hughes, Richard Hughes (Jodi), Scott Harris, Craig Harris of VA.

Matt was a loyal friend and loving father with an infectious laugh who dearly valued the time spent with his two children.  He was a free-spirit who enjoyed kayaking and snowboarding.

The service is Saturday, June 26, 2021 at First United Methodist Church, located at 140 N. Main Street Mt. Holly, NC  28120.  Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon, followed by the memorial service at noon.
