Michael James Funderburk Obituary

Michael James Funderburk, 57, of Dallas, North Carolina, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.

Michael was born on June 23, 1969, in Lincolnton, North Carolina, to James (Buddy) Funderburk and Joyce Lavender Armstrong. He graduated from East Lincoln High School. Michael owned and operated Funderburk Quality Grading and Construction.

His wife, Angela, was loving and devoted, standing faithfully by Michael’s side through every challenge. Her love, strength, and dedication were a beautiful reflection of the vows they shared, and she remained with him to the very end.

Construction wasn’t just his career; it was his passion. Michael could operate a loader, dozer, skid steer, or trackhoe like no other. He had an incredible gift for shaping the land and took great pride in his work, always creating a finished product that reflected his skill and precision. He loved spending time in Cades Cove and Cherokee to see elk, taking road trips with his family, and especially long motorcycle rides with his wife. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Whether he was sharing stories, making people laugh, or reminiscing about old times, Michael had a gift for leaving them with a story to remember.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Angela Cauthen Funderburk; his children, Jacob Funderburk (Kendell), Jonathan Caleb Funderburk (Christa), Abby Funderburk (Ethan), Aubrey (Hayden), Kameryn, and Brynley; his grandchildren, Easton, Evelyn, Gabriel, Bryce, Temperance, and Lily; his parents, Buddy and Jean Funderburk; his mother, Joyce Armstrong; his sister, Sara Funderburk Fink (Michael); his nephews, James and Adlai; his mother- and father-in-law, Tommy and Deborah Cauthen; his sister-in-law, Amy Brown (Jeff); his nephew, Gage Brown; and his niece, Delaney Brown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Methodist Church of Mount Holly (www.fmcmhnc.org/give) or Biker Down (www.bikerdown.com).

Friends and family are invited to First Methodist Church of Mount Holly on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 3 PM for visitation, with the service following at 5 PM. Private burial will follow.
