Mike's faith became sight on May 30, 2023 when he took his last breath and opened his eyes to see Jesus, the keeper of his soul.
Mike was the son of the late Melvin and Martha Ward Whitesides and the grandson of the late Charles and Tessie Riley Ward, Bernard Whitesides, and Alda Ballard and J.R. Auten. He was also preceded in death by his wife Reba, son Michael Shannon, sister Dana Gardner, brother-in-law Tim Bingham and sister-in-law Cathy Whitesides.
Retired for several years from a lifetime of construction work, Mike then worked part-time at Green Meadows Golf Course and ArroChem where he loved what he did and those friends he made.
Mike loved spending time with family, playing golf at every opportunity and cooking. He was a master at making a mouth-watering cake of cornbread and cooking seafood of any kind. He also enjoyed fishing with his dad for years and spent many hours in a boat on area lakes.
Mike is survived by a son Alan, his sister Carol Vinson and husband Mike, brother Pete Whitesides, sister Lori Bingham and many special relatives and friends to remember him with a smile in their hearts when they think of him.
There will be no public service but a private gathering of family to remember and share memories of this kind and gentle man that we called brother, uncle and friend.
The family would like to thank Dr. James McGrath and staff and Gaston Hospice for their care and compassion over the past months.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Gaston Hospice
