Ms. Myrtle Jane Summey of Stanley, North Carolina, was born January 29, 1943, in Gaston County, and departed this life on Monday, July 20, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Melvin and Margree Duckworth Summey.

She received her education from Stanley High School, Class of 1962, in Stanley, North Carolina. She furthered her education at Gaston Beauty College in Gastonia, North Carolina, where she received her Cosmetology license. She was a devoted caregiver for adult seniors and foster children.

She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Common Ground Church in Stanley, North Carolina, since 1991. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, choir member, youth leader, coordinator of family ministries, delegate to the Western North Carolina Conference at Lake Junaluska, and worked in the nursery. She also served as the greeter coordinator and performed card ministry from her home.

She leaves to cherish precious memories her three brothers: Andrew Summey and wife Joann; Miles Summey and wife Janice; Terry Summey and wife Diann. Four nephews: Matthew Summey and wife Tammara; Jesse Summey and wife Brandie; Barron Summey; David Summey and wife Jacki. One niece: Julie Summey Clippard and husband Tim. Five great-nieces: Taylor, Meredith, Morgan, Aubrey Summey, and Sara Clippard. Three great-nephews: Logan, Connor, and Parker Summey. Two young men who held a special place in her heart, Chad Brown and Salvador Duran, and a host of family and friends.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly, North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30pm prior to the service at First United Methodist Church  in Stanley. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Methodist Church Building Fund.
