 Samuel “Sam” R Mitchem Jr went to God peacefully April 27, 2023 at Robin Johnson Hospice House surrounded by love ones. He waged a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born June 11, 1959, in Gastonia a son of the late Samuel R. Mitchem Sr and Audrey Harris Mitchem. A long time member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where he has been a member since he was five years old, he loved hearing and sing- ing the old hymns. Sam was a 1977 graduate of Ashbrook High School and went on to study at Gaston Community College in Business Administration. He loved his hometown of Lowell, NC serving the Community 27 years on the Zoning Board and City Council. He owned and operated Sam’s Jewelry and Pawn Shop since 1992 always willing to help and give. He was a dedicated Mason and Shriner. He loved life to the fullest and always brought a smile to everyone he talked to. The family would like to extend their special thanks for the loving and attentive care given to Sam by the Special Angels at Robin Johnson Hospice House. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant son Samuel R. Mitchem lll. Leaving behind his devoted wife of 17 years, Donna R. Mitchem of Lowell. Brother Ernest of Gastonia, Nephews Troy (Angel) Mike (Kim) and Rodney of Gastonia; as well as many dear great nephews, cousins and friends. A celebration of Sam’s life will be Saturday May 20th at 2:00 Woodlawn Baptist Church Lowell, NC following Masonic Rites at Edgewood Cemetery in Lowell, NC.
