Shirley Caston Robinson

Shirley Oneida Caston Robinson, 91, passed away on Tuesday February 14, 2023. She was born in Mount Holly, daughter of the late Lawrence and Bessie Caston. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years David Ellis Robinson, a granddaughter Stacy, a brother Bill Caston and sister Joyce Keever Wilson.  She was a 1949 graduate of Mount Holly High School. Her first job was at Carolina Ford Tractor. She then went to work at Duke Power Storage Yard in Mount Holly. She then went to McGuire Nuclear Station Support where she retired. She was lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Holly. She served as organist for more than 10 years and was involved in the choir, numerous circles and also served as a youth leader. She loved to camp and travel with her husband David and a group affectionately known as 'The Gang." They loved to square dance with a group from Gastonia. She didn't have a lot of spare time for hobbies but she did enjoy cross stitch, crochet and picture puzzles. When she worked at Carolina Ford Tractor, Shirley and her friend Edith Underwood Nixon learned to drive the tractors so they could pull the floats in the Charlotte Christmas Parades.

Shirley is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Wiles and husband Gehrig of Mount Holly.; one son, John Robinson and wife Suzie of Mount Holly; four grandchildren, Niel Kristian Wiles and spouse Curry of Marietta, Ga., Brooks Wiles of Duluth, Ga., Eric Robinson of East Ridge, TN, Amy Robinson of Mount Holly;  five great-grandchildren, Laysen and Adare Wiles, Jade Robinson, Piper and Willow and special nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00pm Sunday February 19, 2023 at First United Methodist Church in Mount Holly. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
