Sonya Tara Childers, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother passed away on December 27, 2023 in Gastonia, NC at the age of 62. She was born March 3, 1961 in Gaston County, NC to late Patricia Brooks and husband Jimmy and Troy Smith.

She is predeceased by her husband Sam Childers and grandson Dalton Haas.

Sonya is survived by her three daughters Tabitha McMahon (Tim), Crystal Crosby (Robbie) and Tara Hoffman; her sister Hope Pressley; brothers Todd Smith and Troy Smith Jr.; grandchildren Randy Morgan (Faith), Harlie Workman, Jonas Hoffman, Elijah Workman, Krislyn Hoffman, Spencer Guffie, Kaitlyn Wood (Merlyn), Connor McMahon, Savannah Allman and Cailey Haas; great grandchildren Rylee and Raelynn Haas and Leo Wood.

Sonya enjoyed spending time with her family and keeping her grandchildren. She enjoyed riding motorcycles with her late husband Sam.

A funeral service will be held in memory of Sonya on Saturday January 13th,  2024 at 2pm at New Life Baptist Church on North Buckoak Street in Stanley. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00pm prior to the service at the church. All are welcome to celebrate Sonya's life.
