It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sue Mayberry, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Sue was born on June 24, 1936, in Charlotte, North Carolina, and returned to her heavenly home on July 21, 2024, in the same cherished city.
Sue was the daughter of the late Glenn and Katherine Brown Hastings, who instilled in her a love for family and a deep-rooted strength that carried her through life's many tribulations and triumphs. She was a proud and devoted sister to Kenneth Hastings and Brenda Hastings, both of whom preceded her in death, and she cherished the memory of her grandson Wyatt Stancil, whose absence was deeply felt.
Sue's heart and soul were profoundly intertwined with her husband, Eddie Mayberry.
She raised three wonderful children: Rodney Wood (Debbie) of Gastonia, Renee Duncan (Alan) of Wilmington, and Tracy Stancil of Iron Station. Sue's love for her children knew no bounds, and she found immense pride and joy in their accomplishments and the families they built. Her legacy extends to her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life and the recipients of her endless affection and wisdom.
Sue also leaves behind her sister, Tina Brown, with whom she shared a lifelong bond of sisterhood and endless memories.
A woman of simple pleasures and profound passions, Sue loved working in the yard and planting flowers, finding peace and joy in the beauty of nature. She was also deeply fond of her loyal dog, Boogie, who was her constant companion and source of unconditional love.
The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00pm Friday July 26, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church in Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
