Thomas Eugene Rankin II, 52, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away on March 8th, 2022, at Mercy Hospital after having a heart condition for a while along with contracting cellulitis.
He was born in Troy, N.C., on January 25th, 1970. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Rankin Sr. He is survived by his mother, Sylvia T. Rankin, sister, Sherry Rankin. He has two surviving children, son, Thomas Eugene Rankin III, daughter, Eva Gabrielle Rankin. He is also survived by his nieces and nephew, Brittany Ballard, Kayla Rankin, Charles Jeffery Martin Jr., Great nieces and nephews, Arianna Guerra, Alejandro Guerra Jr., Myriahlynn Cohens, Luca and Tinley Harvey, girlfriend, Brenda Raines and bonus children, Timmy and Amanda Outlaw.
Tommy worked as a day laborer in the asphalt construction/heavy equipment business most of his life. He loved to ride motorcycles where he could let the wind and sun hit his face and just forget the world momentarily. If you knew him then you know he said and did what he wanted making no apologies. Tommy loved his family and friends and was there to help anybody if they needed him. He would give you the shirt off his back if someone was in need. Growing up, he taught his sister how to play baseball and football along with all the rules. Any given day, you could find them playing one or the other sport, even if it was just the two of them. She will be forever grateful for that because she took those skills and in return, tutored her children in how to play those very sports.
There was one thing he loved in this world more than life itself, his mother. He was the biggest mama’s boy to ever walk the face of the earth and made no qualms for such. He could talk his mother into just about anything and get everything he wanted. He was definitely a scrapper.
He was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan since he was 4 or 5 years old. His all-time favorite player was Terry Bradshaw.
His favorite color was purple. If you have something purple and you would like to wear it to the services, please do so. It could be something as simple as a ribbon.
We will always cherish and carry every memory in our hearts. He will truly be missed by his family and friends and will never be forgotten. Rest easy in that big paradise sky. We love you.
A memorial service will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. on Thursday, March 17th, 2022, at First United Methodist church, 140 N. Main St. Mount Holly,
