Vincent Nathaniel Murphy Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Vincent Nathaniel "Nat" Murphy, also affectionately known as Cooter, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. Nat departed this earthly life on May 21, 2026, at the Robin Johnson Hospice House, surrounded by the love and care of his family. He was 85 years old. Born on March 12, 1941, in Mount Holly, North Carolina, Nat was the cherished son of Jack Ford Murphy and Dorothy Van Dyke Murphy, who preceded him in death. Growing up in Mount Holly, Nat was a proud graduate of Mount Holly High School, Class of 1958. He carried with him the values and friendships formed in his early years throughout his life. Nat's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly through his ownership and operation of two successful businesses, Blue Devil Textiles and Carolina Warp/Southern Breeze, where he worked tirelessly for nearly 40 years. His businesses not only contributed to the local economy but also provided a sense of community and pride among his employees and clients. A man of many passions, Nat was an active member and former President of the Mount Holly Jaycees, where he dedicated his time to community service and leadership. His commitment to helping others was a testament to his big heart; he was known for doing anything for anyone in need. Nat cherished spending time outdoors, finding joy in working in his yard, sitting around campfires, hunting, and hiking. Family was the cornerstone of Nat's life. He was the devoted husband of Janet Kay Parker Murphy, who passed away after nearly 64 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family that includes their children: Jeff Murphy and his wife Wanda, Darla Wilson, Tessia Steele and her husband Jim, Dana Murphy, and Jessica Safrit and her husband Brian. Nat was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and the adored great-grandfather of sixteen great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. In addition to his immediate family, Nat is survived by his brother, Dean Murphy, who will forever hold Nat's memory close to his heart. Nat was predeceased by his loving parents, his dear wife Janet, his brothers Ronnie and David Murphy, and his sister Debbie Pressley. A graveside service to honor and celebrate Nat's life will be held on Saturday May 30, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont. Friends and family are invited to gather to pay their respects and share in the memories.
