It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Virginia Elizabeth Baker, a beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and cherished friend, on May 18, 2026. Virginia left this world peacefully at the age of 71, at Willow Ridge Rehabilitation in Rutherfordton, where she spent her final days. Born on January 4, 1955, in Shelby, North Carolina, Virginia was the cherished daughter of the late James W. and Virginia Hart Baker. She was welcomed into a large and loving family, and throughout her life, she held her roots close to her heart. A proud graduate of West Mecklenburg High School, Virginia graduated with the class of 1973. Her lifelong friendships began there, and the memories she created with her classmates were cherished deeply. Virginia was predeceased by her dear parents, her sisters Joyce Coady and Jane Moore, and her brothers Woody and Harry Baker. Despite these losses, she found strength and solace in her surviving family members, who meant the world to her. Her sister, Luanne Deese, and her husband, Mike, along with her brother, Ronnie Baker, and his wife, Judy. Virginia also shared a special bond with her cousin, Julie Baker Horne, and was an affectionate aunt to her numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia's passions included crocheting intricate designs, a hobby that showcased her patience and creativity. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, spending countless hours watching old movies and laughing along to reruns of "I Love Lucy."  In accordance with Virginia's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to celebrate her life at a later date. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Willow Ridge and Hospice, whose care and kindness brought comfort to Virginia and her loved ones during this difficult time.
