Willie Mae Messer Obituary

Willie Mae Messer, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, departed this world on November 18, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born on July 11, 1933, in Tennessee to the late Hardy Davis and Oda Davis. Ms. Willie lived a full and vibrant life, filled with love and laughter, and her memory will forever be cherished by the many lives she touched. Preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Messer, and an infant son, James Messer, Willie  was also reunited in spirit with her cherished sisters Ethel Banks, Margaret Layel, and Ellen Baker, as well as her brother, Swan Davis. While her absence will be profoundly felt, she is survived by her devoted children: Barbara Wylie and her husband Jerry, Kathy Chewning and her husband Randy, Wilma Goude, Tammy Dixon and her husband David, Royce Messer and his wife Shirley, Carl Messer and his wife Debbie, and Larry Messer and his wife Leah. Willie was a proud grandmother to 17 grandchildren, a great-grandmother to 27, and a great-great-grandmother to 1. Her family was her world, and she found immense joy in spending quality time with each of them, whether it was gathered around the dinner table or enjoying a sunny day on the front porch with a good book in hand. A long-time resident of Lowell, Willie Mae retired after many years of dedicated service at United Spinning in Lowell. Beyond her employment, she was a pillar of strength and support to her family and friends. She had a unique way of making everyone feel special and loved. Her lifelong friend, Sue Cable, was a constant source of laughter and companionship, sharing countless memories together over the years. Willie's warm spirit and gentle heart endeared her to all who knew her. She had a way of making life’s simple moments extraordinary, whether it was through her love for reading, her passion for cooking, or her heartfelt conversations with family and friends. Her funeral service will be held 2:00pm Friday November 22, 2024 at the First Methodist Church in Mount Holly. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery.
